3. Operation

3-1. Dashboard – Main Panel

  1. Confirm that either “LIVE”, “PAUSE” or “STOP” is displayed on the LiveShell display panel.
  2. Access http://shell.cerevo.com/ to start the Dashboard main panel.

Note: To use the Dashboard, your LiveShell must be online.

The Dashboard Main Panel

  1. The setup icon of your Ustream account
  2. The Ustream account name connected with the LiveShell
  3. Your network ESSID is displayed when you use a Wi-Fi LAN network. “Wired” is displayed when you use an ethernet cable LAN network.
  4. The LiveShell’s firmware revision
  5. The email address you registered for the Dashboard
  6. Display device ID if you use 2 or more LiveShells.
  7. The Ustream program name which is being streamed from your LiveShell.
  8. The program name that you can change this by clicking on [EDIT]
  9. The battery status  Each icon is displayed when LiveShell is in key lock, caption or record mode.
  10. Turn each feature on by checking each box.
  11. The broadcast video.
  12. The elapsed time since broadcast start.
  13. The current number of viewers/cumulative number of total viewers.
  14. Broadcast video and audio bit rates.
  15. Broadcast video and audio frame rate. The rate is adjusted according to connection quality.
  16. The broadcasting connection quality in 4 levels: Good, Poor, Bad, Dead.
  17. Control the volume by clicking “－” and “＋” or sliding the bar.
  18. Select video quality according “Network”.
    Select the Internet line. The lowest video quality is “3G Lo”. “3G Hi”, “ADSL” and “FTTH” are better quality.
    Adjust the video quality by selecting “ADSL” for an optical fiber Internet connection.
  19. “Object” prioritizes video quality by default.
    Select “Moving” for broadcasting sports. The video quality drops a bit but smoothness of motion is enhanced.
  20. Use “Video input” only when you have both HDMI and AV IN cables connected.
    Your LiveShell automatically detects input when only one cable is connected, making “Video input” unnecessary.
  21. “Aspect ratio” switches video input between HDMI and AV IN on your LiveShell.
    Set the video “Aspect Ratio” only if you are broadcasting using the AV IN input.
    There are three options: vertical adjustment, horizontal adjustment and missing top/bottom[letterbox].
  22. Stop/start the broadcast.
  23. Pause/start video and audio broadcasting.
    Video is broadcast without audio when you select “Pause” from the “Caption” tab.
  24. Record/stop broadcasting video/audio via Ustream.
  25. Adjust the volume in the “Volume” tab.
  26. Set caption in broadcast or paused video from the “Caption” tab.
  27. Cause the “Social Stream” window to pop up.
  28. Open “Custom” Window.
    This custom setup feature is only for those who are very familiar with video broadcasting. It is not recommended that you use custom setup if you are a novice user.

3-2. Control Buttons

Refer to 3-3. Display Messages for messages shown in the display.

Pause: Pauses both audio and video without interrupting the broadcasting connection.

  1. First press the lower left button to switch menus.
  2. Press the “Pause” button at lower left.
  3. The message at the top center in the display will change from “LIVE” to “PAUSE”.
  5. Press the “Start” button at lower left once more to restart broadcasting.

Stop: Stops broadcasting

  1. Press the “Stop” button at lower right to stop broadcasting.
  2. Stop broadcasting: the lower right icon changes from “Stop” to “Offline”.

Off line: Disconnects the Dashboard

  1. Press the “Offline” button at lower right in a STOP mode.
  2. The LiveShell will disconnect the Dashboard and go offline.

Power Off

  1. Press the upper left button when you see the Power symbol.
  2. Press the “Power off” button at lower left.
    The LiveShell will power off and automatically run a firmware update if an update is available.

Key lock

  1. First press the lower left button to switch menus.
  2. Press the “Key lock” button at upper right.
  3. The LiveShell will lock the button control.
    Press the lower left and right buttons at the same time for 3 seconds to unlock.

3-3. Display Messages

 

Status icon on the top line

      Displays the battery power. When the AC adapter is plugged in, the rightmost icon is displayed.
The LCD backlight will blink when the battery is low.
      Displays the WiFi quality. When an ethernet connection is used, the rightmost icon is displayed.

LiveShell Front Buttons, LCD Icons and Messages

The functions of the four buttons in the various modes are as follows, moving clockwise from top left.

Display During Broadcast

Press the bottom right button during broadcasting to change the menu in the following order from 1) – 6), which are shown at the bottom center of the display.

1) Master Volume / Quality

Current volume and video quality value are displayed.

Note: Quality shows the following messages by default.
3G low-bandwidth / 3G high-bandwidth / ADSL / Optical Fiber -> 3GLo / 3GHi / ADSL / FTTH
Prioritized Quality / Prioritized Motion -> St / Mv
For instance, if you set to prioritize quality on an optical fiber network, “FTTH/St” will be displayed.

2) AV IN Volume / MIC IN Volume / HDMI Volume

The current volume value is displayed.

3) Bit rate / Frame rate / Queue

The broadcasting bit rate and frame rate for audio and video are displayed.

4) Channel Name

The currently broadcasting Ustream channel is displayed.

5) Broadcast URL

The broadcasting Ustream URL is displayed as a shortened ustre.am URL.

6) Version/Device ID

The firmware version and the Liveshell Device ID number are displayed.

Display During Offline

Changing the Screen Display When the LiveShell is Offline
Even when your LiveShell is offline, you can cycle through the display in the bottom center of the screen by pressing the button at bottom right. Note that the top center of the screen will always display “LiveShell.”
1 (Initial State): Dashboard URL
The URL ‘shell.cerevo.com’ are displayed.
2: Version Device ID
The firmware version and device ID of the LiveShell are displayed.
3: Ethernet MAC Address (From Rev. 3233)
The built-in ethernet MAC address is displayed.

3-4-1. Add Network

This setup guide is for adding an additional network aside from the LiveShell default setup.

Adding an Ethernet LAN Network

DHCP-Enabled Ethernet LAN

No additional ethernet LAN setup is required once you have completed the initial setup. To use an ethernet LAN network, just plug the LAN cable into your LiveShell. The ethernet LAN network must be able to auto-detect IP addresses.

Note: If you performed the initial setup with a fixed-IP ethernet LAN network, you need to change the ethernet LAN address to DHCP.

Adding a Wireless LAN Network

Numbers (Wi-Fi numbers) are assigned to networks starting with the most recent. When few registered access points are detected, the most recently registered access point will be given priority.

  • The older the registered access point, the larger the assigned Wi-Fi number and the lower the priority order.
  • You can register up to ten access points, after which the oldest access points are deleted.

If there are no new access points, your LiveShell will automatically connect to the last registered access point (i.e., the Wi-Fi spot with the lowest number.)

Your LiveShell does not detect ESSID stealth access points. You need to set up such access points at the end.

Setup

  1. Click “Setting” at top right in the Dashboard main panel.
  2. Click “Add network”.
  4. Input the wireless LAN network ESSID and the password.
  5. Connect the setup cable as shown below and click on the play button.
  6. The broadcast starts when “LIVE” is displayed at the top of the display.

3-4-2. Ustream Account Setting

Changing your LiveShell Ustream account.

  1. Click on “Setting” at top right in the Dashboard main panel.
  2. Click on “Edit Account”.
  3. Enter a new Ustream username and password, then click on “Get Channel”.
  4. Select a channel.
  5. Click on “Save”.
  6. Saved message is displayed.

  1. Click on “Setting” at top right in the Dashboard main panel.
  2. Click on “Ustream Channel”.
  3. Select a new channel and click on “Save”.

Link/unlink with sites such as Facebook.

Change email address

Change the email address registered in the Dashboard.

Change password

Change the log-in password used in the Dashboard.

Delete Account

Delete your Dashboard account.
